Upward to You, I’m lifting
Lifting my soul, O Lord,
Trusting You, O my Father,
Waiting in the unknown;
Oh, may my faith be supported,
Faith so preciously poured,
Let me not be ashamed, —
Or God, by You, ignored;
Where’s a trusting soul who lacks a great reward?
I sing because You hold me, You are my guaranty!
Your eye is on the sparrow, and I know
You’re watching me.
May Your betrayers falter,
They are without a cause;
May the corrupt be halted
While all the faithful watch.
And, let my faith be commissioned!
Lead me clear as day,
As You are training and guiding,
I follow in Your way,
I’m alive by Your decrees for
You are the One who saves!
You are my God and Savior;
I’m waiting for You to bless.
Bring me Your tender mercies
And loving-kindnesses.
For, they are ancient and faithful.
Disinfecting my sin,
Youthful faults and offenses,
Your light can only cleanse.
You see me in Your mercy!
You give me righteousness!
I sing for You preserve me,
You are my guaranty!
For Your eye is on the sparrow, and I know
You’re watching me.
Oh, Lord, You are good and upright;
Teaching us all Your ways,
And You will guide the humble,
Guide them through all their days,
Yes! The Father is gracious
Full of Mercy and Truth;
And all who live by His edicts
Know tales of how He moves.
For His own sake He pardons our mass of sins accrued.
Find me a soul who fears Him;
This is what God intends.
Making a proper living,
Prospering by His hand.
This soul’s descendants inherit
All the earth at their feet. Yes!
For this, the sweetest secret:
The Lord abides in peace
To all who live in reverence, God will bring increase.
I sing because You keep me,
You are my guaranty!
For Your eye is on the sparrow, and I know You’re watching me.
His covenant, my promise.
Therefore my eyes are fixed
Looking toward the Savior,
Watching for what He’ll bless.
LORD, turn to show off Your mercy!
Pluck my feet from the mesh.
Desolate and affected,
You see my great distress!
Relieve my immense affliction; forgive my list of sins.
Consider how You found me—
Enemies great and small;
Many distressed and ruled me,
Then how You made me stand tall!
Now, save my life, and deliver;
Let Israel not be ashamed,
May my honesty serve me,
My truthfulness is plain.
May Your righteousness save me,
Oh, come defend Your fame!
I sing for You preserve me,
You are my guaranty!
For Your eye is on the sparrow, and
I know You’re watching me.
NOTE: you can sing these lyrics to the old Hymn, Your Eye is on the Sparrow, and I know You’re Watching Me.
If you identify with this psalm in any way, I’d be interested to know about it.
